WAMC's Alan Chartock appears on the cover of this week's Metroland! It was a busy one on the job! I had a great time Wednesday at RPI: I was there covering both the 175th anniverasy of the civil engineering program as well as a demonstration of RPI's seismic simulator. I spent most of the day on campus, the highlight being a one-on-one with College President Dr. Shirley Jackson. She is one of my favorite local people, always a pleasure to interview. She's one of those souls that you get a good bounce or vibe from, a great feeling that stays with you for awhile...
I also met Tarek Abdoun, Class of 1997, professor and acting department head of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer, and David V. Rosowsky, Ph.D., P.E., F. ASCE - RPI's Dean of Engineering.
Should you ever visit the campus you'll notice just about every student carrying a laptop. That's something I'd like to see ALL SCHOOLS do: employ digital technology in enhancing the learning experience!
Another station has been added to the WAMC Network - here's a map of what I would expect to be the coverage area of WWES in Mt. Kisco!
And interestingly, WFCR, a public radio broadcaster in Massachusetts, has paid $600,000 to acquire a station at 640 AM from Clear Channel Broadcasting. This is puzzling to me, as AM radio may be going the way it did in Canada, where stations have been abandoning the AM band.
