Sitting in the same position all day, day after day, is a recipe for injury. As reported at Canada.com, “Sitting too long is the most common mistake employees are making.” In fact, even if a monitor and keyboard are at the ideal height and you have an ergonomic chair, the effect of so-called “static loading” will take its toll as muscles begin to atrophy. This is because, as a physiologist would describe, “The musculoskeletal system is unsuited for prolonged static work because the body cannot supply fresh nutrients to the stressed tissues.”

Enhanced beauty through cosmetics dates back over four thousand years to North Africa. The culture usually associated with the use of innovative beauty aids is that of ancient Egypt. Good looks and personal hygeine were very important to the Egyptian people. They believed that physical appearance had a direct juncture with the well being of the spirit. They attempted to always appear neat, and smell agreeable.

The quest for enhanced beauty continued down through the ages. The very idea "BEAUTY" has evolved over time to include women and men of all shapes, sizes and skin colours.

Want to see proof that The Skin Shop products ehance beauty? Have you seen the beautiful Skin Shop models?

The old friends are from the neighborhood: Ross's first crew was Triple Cs, or Carol City Cartel, named after the rough Miami neighborhood that Ross and the other members — Gunplay, Young Breed, Torch — called home.

Where did Ross meet his new friends, the members of Maybach Music Group? It's 2011: He met them on the Internet.

Are there places in your home that often get wet? Yes, the bathroom, the kitchen counter/food prep area, the swimming pool. If there's any place where you are experiencing mold, mildew or surface water damage, installing glass tiles is an excellent, worry-free way of protecting your building!

I had a bathroom problem: one wall that got wet from humidity that built up in the room became weakened: the paint began to bubble off, chip and expose the plaster underneath, which then began to crumble! The fix was simple: tile the entire bathroom! Bathroom Tiles on every wall!

Modern tiles are quite stylish and beautiful No one should ever have to be concerned with water damage to paint, plaster or drywall! Glass tiles cannot be breached by liquids, period! Did I tell you they can be used outdoors as well? They are weather-resistant!
Tiles are quite versatile and are available NOW by going to GLASS TILE STORE.COM!

P.S. - Those charming, distinctive retro "subway tiles" are making a big comeback - check out the Glass Tile Store's huge selection of tile now, while it's fresh on your mind, and bookmark the page so you can share the information with friends! Get creative with beautiful glass tile!

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a slight ear ache. I could feel it coming on last night. I have many errands to run today and a pretty full schedule tomorrow, but I have the over-the-counter meds here at home just in case things get rough.

It's the end of October. Yesterday I turned another year older. Tomorrow is Halloween and then in a few days All Souls. Later in the month of November: Thanksgiving.

2010 is heading toward conclusion. Autumn is in the air. I've always loved this time of year.

Multiple Sclerosis aka "MS" is a disease that is mysterious to many people. You should not fear MS, but get it know more about what doctors and scientists believe it is. MS affects the central nervous system (communication between the brain and other parts of the body is disrupted), and it can manifest itself appearing as anything from basically benign to disabling all the way to devastating.

There is no known cure for the disease. Each MS treatment program is customized for the individual patient, and some patients require little therapy or treatment. Most people experience their first symptoms of MS between the ages of 20 and 40; the initial symptom of MS is often blurred or double vision, red-green color distortion, or even blindness in one eye.

Several doctors advocate a special Multiple Sclerosis Diet to help assist patients manage the disease. Paradoxically, although there is no diet that will treat or cure every single case of multiple sclerosis, researchers agree there may be some connections between MS and diet.

In 2001, the National Academies/Institute of Medicine, a Federal technical and scientific advisory agency, prepared a strategic review of MS research. To read or download the National Academies/Institute of Medicine report, google "Multiple Sclerosis: Current Status and Strategies for the Future."

Forever a stunner ::: Cher wore the same costume in Las Vegas last year and performing the "If I Could Turn Back Time" video in 1989 --- the video was banned from several TV stations in 1989, including the recent MTV Music Video Awards program: MTV would only show the racy video after 9pm.

At the ripe old age of 73, more than a quarter of a century after she became America's workout queen, Jane Fonda is back with a new set of exercise routines!

Age is a mindset. Who among you thinks that 40-plus or even 50-plus women are hotter than some of their younger counterparts? This has been under discussion (a hot topic on blogs) for some time, and I guess Cher and Jane Fonda offer proof positive that you don't have to be old if you don't wanna be! (And also, look at folks like Joe Bruno, Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, etc. etc. etc. - Rock on!) With the advances of modern day society and medicine, we can all realistically shoot for the triple digits, as long as we watch what we eat and how we workout! The universe around us can be expressed as numbers, and those numbers in pattern paint a picture: a network of friends from the vastness of the Internet; travel patterns among residents of cold climates; or a common factor among victims of a disease. Now, the deluge of digital-age data makes possible more complex patterns and a more complete picture – the link between the friends, their travel, and the illness.

The work of Mohammed J. Zaki, a Rensselaer professor of computer science, will enable us to see links and patterns we did not know existed. In recognition of the importance of his work, Zaki has been selected for the 2010 HP Labs Innovation Research Program.

Zaki searches for so-called “graph” patterns – patterns represented by links between points – on an unprecedented level, designing algorithms and systems that connect data through multiple layers and links.

“The ability to connect all the dots from the disparate data sources is extremely important to gain critical insights into complex social, business, or scientific phenomena of interest,” said Zaki.

Early systems for gathering and analyzing data were built on a “transactional” basis, looking at one transaction at a time within a particular category (such as an e-mail to a friend among e-mail records, or a flight to a particular destination among flight records, or an urgent visit to a hospital among hospital admissions records) independent of links that exist between those different transactions. With the preponderance of data, the need for a new model has grown.

“If you think of the data of the world today, everything is related to everything else,” Zaki said. “Existing statistical frameworks have to be extended to reflect the new interconnectedness of this world.”

For example, Zaki said, researchers may have studied the structural properties of social or other interaction networks, but have largely ignored the content of individual nodes and entities.

“Other people have primarily looked at the topology of the networks; my goal is to simultaneously add the content,” Zaki said.

According to HP, the prestigious Innovation Research Program is designed to provide colleges, universities, and research institutes around the world with opportunities to conduct breakthrough collaborative research with HP.
HP reviewed more than 375 proposals from 202 universities across 36 countries. Rensselaer is one of only 52 universities in the world to receive a 2010 Innovation Research award. The HP Labs Innovation Research Program is designed to encourage open collaboration between HP and the academic community on mutually beneficial, high-impact research. This year's proposals were solicited on a range of topics within the eight broad research themes at HP Labs: analytics, cloud, content transformation, digital commercial print, immersive interaction, information management, intelligent infrastructure, and sustainability.

"Our goal with the HP Labs Innovation Research Program is to inspire the brightest minds from around the world to conduct high-impact scientific research, addressing the most important challenges and opportunities facing society in the next decade," said Prith Banerjee, senior vice president of research at HP and director of HP Labs. “Rensselaer has demonstrated outstanding achievement and we look forward to collaborating with it in this dynamic area of research.”

The award will allow Zaki, working with HP labs, to tackle two specific problems: graph pattern mining and graph indexing.

Pattern mining allows data miners to establish whether a links exists between two or more things.

“We’re looking for hidden patterns: Are entities connected? Are they connected in a particular configuration?” Zaki said.

Pattern mining enables advances in a broad variety of applications like the development of the semantic web, proteins-protein interactions, social networks, and pattern discovery.

Graph indexing refers to systems that can store complex graph and network data.

“Once you have enhanced interlinked data sets, how do you store them? It’s a way of physically storing data on a system on the back end for rapid search and mining,” Zaki said.

The sign beamed this message, worthy of philosophical interpretation: "SECURE YOUR LONGINGS"*** - ah, if only such a message had been displayed a few years back in Plattsburgh or Colonie...

New York Teams Up with Federal Government to Help Children Obtain Affordable Health Insurance

State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., today joined officials of the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and representatives of the North Albany YMCA for the launch of the "Get Covered. Get in the Game" initiative, which will enlist coaches, school officials, and community sports programs to help enroll uninsured children in public health insurance programs.

There are nearly 5 million children around the nation – and about 343,000 in New York -- who qualify for free and low-income health insurance but are not signed up.

"Get Covered. Get in the Game." brings together coaches, schools, and communities to educate families with children who are eligible for Medicaid or Child Health Plus and can immediately avail themselves of free and low cost children's health care programs. New York State Health Department Commissioner Richard Daines and Sue Kelly, the associate regional administrator for Medicaid and Children's health at the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, were at the North Albany Y today to kickoff the Empire State's launch of "Get Covered." Here's a link to my report.

For more information about the programs go to InsureKidsNow.gov or call 800-698-4KIDS.

For years, various diets (dietary plans) have come and gone and come back again. For this digital "always ready" information society we are all part of in 2010, the perfect diet involves some going back to basics.

Rule # 1 - Don't deprive yourself! Everything is okay in moderation. For example: you're eating vegan or vegetarian but you've invited to a special function, say, a "class reunion." Unless it's absolutely against your morals or religion, don't be left out! Feel free to eat whatever everyone else is! You'll feel more comfortable, you won't be labeled a "weirdo" and no one will look at you strangely. Having said that, keep in mind that there will be a lot of choices at the table, and it's up to YOU to make the healthiest ones possible! You can fast later in the month or drink juices and eat natural foods for a few days to make up for the "setback."

Rule # 2 - Hydrate! That means, drink plenty of water. Keep a water jar in the ref. Canned tomato juice and pineapple juice are good for ya, especially if you don't have a juicer. Just stay away as much as possible from fattening diabetes-causing sodas and sugary drinks.

MILK is okay: if you don't really drink milk often (maybe you have some in your cereal once or twice a week) get REGULAR WHOLE MILK. Not skim. Not 2%. My weight loss I partially attribute to switching to whole milk.

COFFEE is CRUCIAL! If you drink the stuff, know that coffee raises levels of "good" HDL cholesterol and improves the ratio of HDL to LDL ("bad" cholesterol), reducing the risk of heart disease. Researchers found that drinking 4 or more cups of joe per day lower a person's risk of being hospitalized for heart rhythm problems (arrhythmis) by 18 per cent!

Coffee plays a key role in my weight-watching program. A cup at lunchtime with 81mg Aspirin.

Rule # 3 - Lower salt intake and don't obsess! Don't get carried away by a notion that "such and such" isn't good for you! Reduce the amount of salt used in cooking (find other flavor enhancers, like herbs) and try not to add extra salt to your dinner plate. I use finely ground sea-salt mixed with an equal portion of the supermarket iodized variety.

Rule # 4 - Set new standards and a new timetable. If once a week you go out with friends and end up at a fast food joint, go ahead, eat that hamburger. It will not kill you! Just make sure you limit yourself when you're eating foods on the "restricted" list! See Rule #1! Your biggest meal should be breakfast. I get up in the morning around 0500, drink a galss of grapefruit or cranberry juice, go through my exercise routine, take the dog out (that's my early morning walk) and then start making breakfast at 6. I don't eat from 4 hours before bedtime on! My cut-off time is 7pm. If I feel hungry, I pour a big glass of water. I usually fall asleep anywhere between 10:30 and Midnight (depending on what I'm doing- if I'm watching TV, I'll doze off before the show's over!)

Rule # 5 - Bring on the fruits and vegetables!

Rule # 6 - Vitamins are important! Your doctor should be able to tell you if you have deficiencies of any particular vitamin or mineral. Follow any recommendations you receive. A multi-vitamin with phyosterols will probably be just fine for the average person. EAT foods rich in vitamins C and D, and Omega3.

Rule # 7 - Supplements too! Anyone concerned about cholesterol should be adding Omega3's (Smart Balance Products), Phytr and NIACIN, the B-vitamin that helps keep levels where they should be. Now, you can't eat at McDonald's and KFC everyday and think Niancin will help. No no no! But if you take 500mg of Niacin with each of your three main meals, you'll be good to go another 100-thousand miles!

Rule # 8 - Body / Tummy Health! Your stomach should not hang out or bulge out or spill out over your pants. Following the dietary guidelines I'm giving you should help: you're also going to need to walk at least 30 minutes a day, and if you can find time to excersise, that's even better. DITCH THE SODA! Especially DIET soda! Every fatty I see is lugging and chugging a 2 or 3 litre bottle of diet soda. It's just plain NO GOOD FOR YOU!

If you can squeeze in biking with your walking, that's great. If you're already into yoga or you have tapes or DVDs you work out with, or one of the stair machines, that's even better. the key is to psyche yourself up and keep at it! If activity gets cumbersome, that's when you need to map it out: maybe do 3 days a week on the stair machine, 4 days a week biking and / or walking. Mix it up and substitute one activity for another if you wish.

Rule # 9 - Raise your spirits! Whether it's online or in-person, it's easy to find like-minded people trying to stay healthy... get socially and emotionally connected to friends, family and community!

Rule # 10 - Sleep! Haven't heard that one before, have you? Make a good night's sleep a priority. If you grind your teeth or snore, a mouthguard will likely help. f you get quality sleep you'll have improved energy and mental clarity that will enable you to keep your goals or "whiteboard" in focus.

What about fasting?

Hey, fasting is cool! I do it myself, and you can too, whether it's just for a day or a few days. Leave the long drawn-out "cleansings" to experts, and check with your doctor before making severe dietary alterations. Good Luck, and I hope you'll become a big fat loser soon!

Cinergy, which advertises limited benefit health plans on late night television, the Internet and through telemarketers, will face a hearing where it will answer charges that it is not fit to be allowed to sell insurance in New York State.

Limited benefit health insurance plans normally provide less than comprehensive hospital/medical coverage, but with healthcare bills being the leading cause of personal bankruptcy filings nationally, many consumers searching for affordable coverage buy limited benefit health plans as one way to insure against potential liability. Limited benefit health plans may leave consumers with large medical bills. If injury or illness occurs and an insured files a claim, they may find that they have less coverage than they thought.

"Health insurance is too important to take chances with," Superintendent Wrynn said. "Consumers need to have confidence that the coverage they think they are paying for is the coverage they get. We will not allow anyone to take advantage of New Yorkers' need for affordable health insurance by using misleading marketing techniques."

At the hearing, Cinergy Health Inc., a Florida company, along with sublicensee Steven Trattner, must answer charges that they "have demonstrated untrustworthiness and/or incompetence to act as insurance producers within the meaning of section 2110(a)(4) of the Insurance Law." The company, which generated more than $26 million in 2008 marketing limited benefit and associated health plans, and Mr. Trattner will have to show cause why they should not be fined or their licenses suspended or revoked. An unlicensed company or individual would not be able to do any insurance business in New York.

The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 29, 2010 at the New York State Insurance Department's New York City office, 25 Beaver Street.

Last year, the Department cracked down on companies selling limited benefit health insurance plans in ways that mislead people into believing they have full heath insurance coverage. The Department moved to protect New Yorkers by stopping one company from selling the product in New York and from advertising nationally and began an examination of the marketing practices of all companies selling this product.

Cinergy marketed the plan that led to the Department's crackdown, and committed multiple violations of the Insurance Law while doing so, according to the citation the Department issued to Cinergy. Major charges against Cinergy include creating and using television advertisements that were false and misleading, in that the advertisements:

• stated that the insurance covers "doctors, hospitals, accidents, pregnancy, labs, diagnosis, emergencies and surgery" and that there are "no annual limits or deductibles for surgery," when in fact there were limitations on the coverage such as a limit of $100 per visit for five doctor's visits per year. By not indicating the significant limitations in the coverage, the advertisement created the misleading impression that the limited medical benefit plan actually offered major medical or comprehensive coverage, which it did not;

• stated that "Most Pre-Existing Conditions Are Accepted," without defining or describing "pre-existing condition," and without disclosing that the policy actually had a six-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions;

• did not contain the expected benefit ratio for the policy, which is the portion of future premiums that the company expects to return as benefits;

• prominently displayed the "Cinergy Health" logo and name throughout the duration of the advertisement, while the name of the insurer providing the coverage, AMLI, the actual plan provider, was shown inconspicuously for only a few seconds; and

• failed to provide the full name of the insurer providing the coverage, together with the city in which it had its principal place of business.

Cinergy's telephone sales staff made false and misleading statements to potential enrollees regarding the nature of the coverage, the cost of the coverage and other benefits, and the identity of the entity that was actually providing the coverage, the citation says. In addition, Cinergy issued a "Member Handbook" to enrollees that contained false and misleading statements regarding the nature of the coverage, the cost of the coverage and other benefits, and the identity of the entity that was actually providing the coverage.

Cinergy was cited for numerous other violations of the Insurance Law, including compensation violations, using unapproved forms and using unlicensed agents.
