Musician Gil Scott-Heron (#Gil Scott-Heron), who helped lay the groundwork for rap by fusing minimalistic percussion, political expression and spoken-word poetry, is gone. He was 62, still young by 2011 standards.

Hudson Valley poet Paul Clemente will read his work at the next program in the Poetry on the Loose Reading/Performance Series. The event will be held in the rear room behind the Utopian Directions bookstore at 7 West Street in Warwick at 4:00 p.m. on April 2. Following the feature, others are welcome to read original work. Admission is free.

Clemente is known not only as an original and compelling poet, but as the producer of the Read for Food Series that raises money for local food pantries. He locates himself in the region’s time-line as “young enough to have missed Woodstock and old enough to remember the mothballed WWII fleet that was moored for years in the Hudson River’s mountainous Haverstraw Bay.” Professionally, Clemente is a scientist with the DEC.

The Dancing Bear sat upon a hill
telling all who chanced to listen
of his personal conquest thrill,

The rusted hinges
on the door of the fortress
that is his heart, cannot be moved.

Ancient Kings no longer rest
their spirits having been summoned
souls floating upon the River Time.

Thousands pushing forward,
millions waiting to follow
no one can explain the crowd.

What does he hold in his hand
that I cannot in mine?
His reign is sinking in the sand.

The Tablets of Law lie open,
the trial being unfurled and
life will review soon if not already.

In case you missed the nightly news,
you're only young awhile and when you
realize you're old -
too late to change your style.

Sister Feng in New York City! (more below...)

It's that time of year when Pop Culture most remembers THE BEATLES ::: this is the month they went viral in the USA (I'll be posting on this during the week- you won't want to miss it!) and also the month John Lennon was killed.

Do we need local teevee news at 0430? CBS6 starts it Monday. I think it's a great idea! I'm up at 0430, and catching up with news and weather at that time is perfect for me! This will definitely get me off to a better start, so when I'm out on my morning run, I'll be able to frame up a few story ideas. Usually I rely on radio news, because I have no time to WATCH anything between 0600-0700!

Sister Feng’s New York Job Interview With Sinovision - Chinese internet celebrity Sister Feng interviews for a job with Sinovision, an American Chinese-language television station ::: "The news director that interviewed her praised Luo Yufeng as not being the way China’s media publicized her as being but rather an independent-thinking, frank and sincere, clear-eyed, and quick-thinking person." Fauna has posted background videos as well as translationss of Sister Feng’s latest [Sina Weibo] microblog messages!

Last Tuesday, the students at I.S. 192 in Queens, NY got a visit from Fabolous for the New York After-School All-Stars (ASASNY) program. Loso spoke to the students on proper internet usage on social networking sites like Facebook & Myspace.

Here is a poem about Jerusalem.

Yesterday I sent a personal email off to one of my favourite bloggers. This one I have followed since the blogger was NObody and is now an international star. I reminded that blogger of the fact that had there been no internet and no Blog*spot, the blogger would probably just be another "ordinary person." There's a lot of life ahead for that blogger!

But what about other bloggers, some of whom feel they've gone as far as they can?

Madame X set out on a blogging mission about 5 years ago. She used her blog as a tool to enrich her personally. Here is her assessment of the situation.

Big Brother Africa is a television show produced by Endemol in South Africa. The show, which has become the most popular TV reality show in Africa, entered its fifth season with Big Brother Africa All-Stars. After 91 days of stiff and exciting competition, Nigerian musician and actor Uti Nwachukwu was announced the winner of US$200,000. The final two housemates were Nigeria's Uti and Zimbabwe's Munya Chidzonga. Although Munya lost, he ended up "winning" US$300,000. Follow Zimbabwean bloggers to know what happened.

I have a vision
I watch the dead
Watch them dance
Watch them sing

they live, they laugh
they grow, they cry
they love, they hate
they die

I rest and wonder why

I get up and wander
through the river Life
wondering
Am I better
for all their strife?

Now, how would one go about making a motion picture out of my short simple poem? Impossible! Filmmakers have tried to capture the essence of poetry, to accolades and criticisms!

The word "televisor" eventually gave way to "television" and you can read more about the "chronovisor" and its quirky fabricator here.

The idea for this poem came suddenly while I was driving. I dictated the words, as they came to me, into my mobile phone. It could either be interpreted as a work of literary zen, or perhaps more accurately, a poem questioning the usefulness of watching television, specifically, old movies from the 1930s where all of the actors are now dead. Celluloid ghosts, representations of beings that once were.

Ever heard of the Random Twitter Poetry Game? Dragonblogger has been hosting the game, which yours truly partakes in from time to time.

Drag beckons twitterers to join the game by tweeting a single word back to him, which he incorporates into his poem of the day! Here's today's (WEDS) poem:

Now Awakened

Relaxed after a quatercentenary of sleep
spun from some obsequious equinox thread
the incarnation of a snafu karma hyperbole

Flying over the ancient Mediterranean Savannah
immortal scales glinting like polished palladium
with strength of the oak and wisdom of dreams

Community of hallowed energy in one being
men with frugal spirit testify shamelessly
afraid of being simple mortal nomz appetizers

Ancient being of apocalypse now awakened
salvation or slayer to be determined
as the world revels in awe and fear

-Poem by Dragon Blogger

The daily poem is published on the blog WANDERER THOUGHTS.
